Dean the Machine
I'm sure you've heard about the next amazing journey that one of our own is taking... Dean Karnazes is once again putting his ultra skills to the test. He has joined forces with LIVE! with Regis and Kelly to bring attention to childhood obesity and running across America. For three months he will be running 40 to 50 miles a day!!!! Two marathons a day, every day, for three months straight. Seriously. I can't even believe it myself.
I just finished reading 50/50 and was so impressed with not just his running but his genuine kindness of spirit. You can go here to see more about this challenge that he's taking on as well as dates and locations where you can run with him!!! I'm expecting EMZ to run with him in March and Kovas to run with him in April and of course to give us reports...
So amazing. You can also follow him on facebook as he will update and share experiences along the way. This will definitely be something I want to follow to see how he survives this challenge!
Will you follow? Do you care? Do you think he's crazy? Do you think his body can handle that kind of mileage for 3 months? Let's hear it...

Yes I'll follow .... yes I care .... YES I think he's crazy. As for his body holding up, I just don't know. Can't help but project my own injuries on his effort and think he won't make it, but that guy is an animal. I really hope he does make it, and if not, I hope it continues to push other folks to get out and get active and/or run.
ReplyDeleteI just stared reading 50/50 and I'm hooked! I will def follow this adventure. He is amazing! I hadn't heard about this so thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteholy crap! that's awesome. i wonder if folks will join him all along the way....
ReplyDeletewhen you said "do you think he's crazy" i read "do you think he's lazy?" haha! it's still early. and yes, what a bum! why not 3 marathons a day! =)
I had not heard of this until now, but I can't say I'm surprised. I'm glad he continually puts his abilities to use of raising money and awareness.
ReplyDeleteIf I had that kind of "superhuman" ability, I'd be testing how far I could push it myself!
He's something of a hero, isn't he? When he did the 50/50, scientists determined he is graced with the ability to withstand pain better than the rest of us. Some hormone or chemical or something that he has an overabundance of. Lucky him! I'm hoping to see him, but wouldn't want to slow him down by trying to run with him!
ReplyDeleteI always wonder if there is a breaking point, you know where the body just revolts and no longer can run. It's not so much enduring more pain than the rest of us, it's how he's not constantly injured. I will sporadically follow, I find it intriguing. THANKS!!
ReplyDeleteI think he's lazy and should try something harder.
ReplyDeleteuggg. seriously. will there be anything this guy can't do?!
AMAZING.
Freaking love his crazy ideas/goals.
Yup, he's amazing. I am looking forward to following along on his journey. He is inspiring in a lot of ways and seems like such a nice guy.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe it! I didn't think it could get any crazier than 50 marathons in 50 days! He is going to be in Riverside, CA on Saturday so I am going to stalk him! :)
